Network of Action for Migrants in Malaysia (NAMM): NIKE's Code of Conduct

Malaysia has 5.8 million migrant workers of which 2.9 million are documented - 2/9/2014

Malaysia had approximately 1.9 million foreign workers spread across sectors such as manufacturing (39 per cent), construction (19 per cent), plantation (14 per cent), housemaids (12 per cent), services (10 per cent), with the rest in agriculture.

The contributing countries by rank are: Indonesia (50.9 per cent), Bangladesh (17.4 per cent), Nepal (9.7 per cent), Myanmar (7.8 per cent), India (6.3 per cent), and the rest from Vietnam. - Malaysian Insider, 20/5/2010, Foreign worker levy hike in 2011

National Employment Returns 2009, 34% of 1.3 million workers in the study earn less than RM700. The poverty income line for 2009, for Sabah (RM1048) and Sarawak (RM912), whilst for Peninsular Malaysia it is RM763. Malaysia's average poverty line income then was RM800. - Charles Hector Blog

NAMM is a network of groups that are working for the promotion and respect of worker rights and human rights, with a focus on migrants in Malaysia.

NAMM emphasizes ACTION, and states clearly that this its work would be for the benefit of Migrants in Malaysia.

NAMM is interested also in education,awareness raising, training and empowerment of people, of workers, and of migrants.

NAMM is also an advocacy group determined to change policies and laws that will be more favourable to workers, including migrant workers.
